DONATION FOR EMERGENCY MEDICAL AID OPERATIONS IN UKRAINE.

Humanitarian aid, Ukraine
Since the invasion of Russian troops on the 24th of February 2022, the eyes of the entire world have been on Ukraine. No-one knows how far-reaching the impact this war will ultimately be, but one thing is clear – Ukraine is facing a humanitarian catastrophe in which millions of people are in fear of, or in some cases, are fighting for their lives.

In order support the people in Ukraine as expeditiously as possible at this time, the Wirtgen Stiftungen have made funds available for medical aid operations. A few days following the outbreak of the fighting, teams from the aid organisation “LandsAid e.V.” established a presence in Radymno on the Polish-Ukrainian border and in Siret on the Romanian-Ukrainian border in order to offer support and assistance to the victims of the war to the best of their abilities. Besides providing medical care and distributing aid, such as food, sleeping bags, thermal mats and power banks as well as medications, dressings and infusions, a team on the Polish side has helped convert a hotel to operate as a transit camp for the refugees. There is an ongoing effort on the ground to determine the specific needs of the refugees in order to best target the response to the situation.

Since there is also a shortage of medical items in Ukraine, it is planned to make a further delivery of 25 tonnes of materials to the border and into the war zone in the near future. Current information indicates that further deliveries will (have to) be made.

With this donation, the Wirtgen Stiftungen would like to help quickly and unbureaucratically. The foundations wish all those affected strength and fortitude during these difficult times.
