IMPLEMENTATION OF A SLEEP LABORATORY SYSTEM – DRK KAMILLUS HOSPITAL, ASBACH.

As a regional provider with almost 160 beds and a certified stroke unit, the DRK Kamillus Hospital in Asbach is also a renowned address for the treatment of strokes and multiple sclerosis. Especially in the case of strokes, every second counts in an emergency, so regionality is indispensable in acute treatment, saves lives and reduces the risk of permanent disability.

Scientific studies prove that sleep-related respiratory disorders are a high risk factor for secondary diseases, such as strokes, heart attacks, Parkinson's syndromes or dementia: But people's quality of life also suffers from precisely such sleep-related disorders.

The Wirtgen Stiftungen are funding the establishment of a sleep medical measuring station where parameters such as depth of sleep, oxygen saturation, breathing, ECG, muscle tension, leg movements and body position are recorded and evaluated in detail by means of a special computer over the entire duration of the sleep. The measuring station is used on more than 200 days a year and is thus already working at full capacity.

The Wirtgen Stiftungen hope that this will improve the quality of life for as many patients as possible through faster and better diagnosis and reduce the risk of secondary diseases caused by sleep-related respiratory or movement disorders.
