DONATION FOR RHINELAND-PALATINATE STATE GAMES FOR PEOPLE WITH MENTAL DISABILITIES.
The rhythm of four years is a very special one in the sports world. Not just the FIFA World Cup and the UEFA European Football Championship, but also the Summer and Winter Olympic Games are held every four years. The association for athletes with intellectual disabilities, the ‘Special Olympics’, also hosts its Olympics at the same interval.
The time will come again this autumn, from 20 to 22 September 2022, after a long pause with no regular training or sports activities, and the state games for the Special Olympics originally planned for 2020 will be held in Koblenz. Under the motto ‘Strong together’, around 1,000 athletes from Rhineland-Palatinate and throughout Germany will participate in 14 sports events and a non-competitive offer. The athletes will be assisted by a team of around 1,000 people – coaches, caregivers and dedicated helpers who come from clubs, social institutions and the general population of the city of Koblenz.
The Wirtgen Stiftungen are supporting this sports event and, in accordance with their mission statements, they would like to make a contribution to the motivation and integration of athletes with mental disabilities.
The funding is meant not just to make these state games the sports highlight of the year for all participants, but also to raise awareness of these games as a major sports event that aims to provide impulse for a more inclusive society.
