Donation for the establishment of an inpatient hospice facility in Neuwied.
People want to live their lives in a self-determined and fulfilled way in every phase of their lives. This also and above all applies to the last phase of life. Most terminally ill people want to spend the time left they have at home in a familiar environment. To enable them to do so, they and their relatives are accompanied by outpatient hospice services in addition to the family doctor. However, care at home has its limits, for example if there are no relatives nearby or if they are unable to cope with this task. In this case, admission to an inpatient hospice is an option, which helps the terminally ill to go their final journey in dignity. A hospice also has the patient’s relatives in mind.
A look at the local region shows that there are good outpatient hospice services here and that outpatient palliative care has also become established. However, the two nearest inpatient hospices are in Koblenz or Bonn.
In order to close this gap in care, the Neuwieder Hospiz e.V., the German Red Cross, the Franciscan Brothers of the Holy Cross and the Marienhaus Foundation are committed to establish an inpatient hospice in the north of Rhineland-Palatinate. A location was found in Neuwied-Niederbieber. With a concept for the sponsorship and operation, a new building with 12 beds had been under construction on the idyllic Aubach since March 2023. The new building was ceremoniously handed over to the operator on schedule at the end of August 2024 and the first patients were admitted just a few days later.
The Wirtgen Stiftungen are supporting the conversion and the initial furnishing and equipment with a total of € 50,000. In this way, the foundations would like to make a contribution to ensuring that people can spend the last time of their lives in a place where everything is done to ensure that their dignity and their right to a self-determined life are preserved until death. The Wirtgen Stiftungen wish all those affected much strength and fortitude.
