NEWS: WIRTGEN INVEST

The Principle of Forward Thinking: Sustainability at WIRTGEN INVEST.

Sustainability is an intrinsic part of our business ethos. It is ingrained in our daily lives and entails our investments being systematically aligned according to best-in-class criteria. As such, we set a high benchmark for our investments based on ESG standards (Environment, Social, Governance).

EMBRACING ENVIRONMENTAL COMPATIBILITY.

The same applies to our corporate headquarters.  The building sets new standards in terms of sustainability. The energy concept of the new construction far exceeds the requirements set out in the current Energy Saving Ordinance. The heating concept relies on geothermal energy supported by a photovoltaic system on the roof. In addition, the building meets all energy efficiency standards, including when it comes to insulation.

We apply the same rigorous approach when it comes to our investments in the real estate sector.  Across all asset classes, the majority of our properties meet the requirements of the ESG standards. Our 12 major properties possess 15 ESG certificates. The recently acquired office and retail building at 50 Finsbury Square, a prime location in the centre of London, possesses such certificates as "Net Zero Carbon," "BREEAM Excellent," and "EPC rating of A", for example.

SYSTEMATICALLY INVESTING IN SUSTAINABILITY.

In the energy sector, we focus exclusively on sustainable and thus future-oriented technologies.  15 energy parks, comprising 13 solar and 2 wind parks, with a connected load of over 613 MWp, generate in excess of 1,136 billion kWh of green power, thus eliminating approximately 664,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.

In keeping with our corporate philosophy of developing investments over the long term and in a future-oriented manner, we specifically look for sustainable investments when acquiring a stake in a business. In the infrastructure asset class in particular, we focus on environmentally compatible investments.  Consequently, we are investing in a platform for green B2B energy services specifically aimed at small and medium-sized enterprises in Europe. We are investing in public transportation in the United Kingdom, in bio-waste recycling facilities in Australia, and in operators and developers of hydrogen-based solutions in Canada. In addition, we hold stakes in companies involved in hydrogen production and energy storage in Germany.
