The Laxåskogen Wind Park in the south-east of Sweden is WIRTGEN INVEST’s first investment worldwide in the wind energy sector. Having successfully constructed three solar farms in the Czech Republic, WIRTGEN INVEST took the decision to build the wind park in October 2017. Construction of the seven turbines – with a hub height of 135 meters and an overall height of 200 meters – began in the spring of 2018. The wind park, consisting of seven high-performance turbines, each with a 3.6 megawatt generating capacity, went online as planned in February 2019. Power generation in the first two months of operation is already above projection. Nevertheless, the originally forecast annual output of approximately 82,500 MWh will be maintained. This corresponds to the power a normal car would need to drive 413 million kilometres or the electricity requirements of over 20,000 four-occupant households. According to the OECD methodology, it will also save approximately 36,000 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. An important contribution to protecting the environment. Wind power is an established and mature form of renewable energy used in Scandinavia in addition to hydroelectric power. The Laxåskogen Wind Park will operate without government subsidies and compete directly with other energy providers.
WIRTGEN INVEST sees wind power in Sweden as an investment with great potential for the future.
