From the very start, WIRTGEN INVEST’s commitment in Portugal was a milestone for its growth strategy in the field of renewable energies. The portfolio consists of six separate projects with a total nominal capacity of about 200 MWp, making it one of the largest solar energy projects in Portugal.
Construction of the first project in Amareleja commenced at the end of July 2019 and was successfully connected to the grid in June 2020.
Due to the excellent irradiation at that site, the approximately 47,000 solar modules at the 17.5 MWp solar park in the country’s southeast near the Spanish border are expected to generate 28,770 MWh of green solar power annually. In the years to come, this energy will supply some 7,000 four-person households with electricity while saving up to 12,600 tonnes of CO2 per annum.
The electricity is marketed entirely free of subsidies via the power exchange or is covered by private electricity supply contracts (PPAs).
For economic reasons, but even more so for environmental reasons, the Portuguese solar market is a meaningful and lucrative growth market for WIRTGEN INVEST.
