From the very beginning, WIRTGEN INVEST’s commitment in Portugal was a milestone for its growth strategy in the field of renewable energies. The enterprise consists of six separate projects with a total capacity of about 200 MWp, making it one of the largest solar energy programmes in Portugal.
In November 2019, construction began in Cartaxo on what is now the third project connected to the grid in July 2020.
The 9.7 MWp solar park in the western part of the country, north of the capital Lisbon, is expected to produce 15,200 MWh yearly of green solar power from the 26,200 solar modules. Over the coming years, this energy will be able to supply close to 3,700 four-person households with electricity while saving up to 6,700 tons of CO2 a year.
The electricity will be marketed entirely without subsidies via the power exchange or will be covered by private electricity supply contracts (PPAs).
