News: Solarparks in Portugal

SOLAR PARKS IN PORTUGAL. EXPLOITING THE POWER OF THE SUN AND THE MARKET.

WIRTGEN INVEST’s latest investment in Portugal must rightly be regarded as a milestone in its growth strategy in the renewable energy sector in two respects. On the one hand, there is a new dimension to the project. Solar parks with a total generating capacity of around 200 MWp are currently being developed at various locations. The parks will cover a total area equivalent to over 500 football pitches and have different solar power generating capacities.

On the other hand, the project is based on a new basic concept. WIRTGEN INVEST, together with partners in Portugal and Germany, has not only acquired the overall project, but is actively involved in construction and operation activities. The concept of the PV Pipeline is thus founded on three principles: Economic efficiency, social acceptability and environmental friendliness. As Portugal has adopted a policy of unsubsidised photovoltaic electricity, the economic efficiency calculation is based on the principle of grid parity and an exclusively direct marketing strategy. In the interest of the environment, the entire plant will be fully recyclable at the end of its 30-year service life.
