Since July 2019, WIRTGEN INVEST has established a presence in Australia, too. WIRTGEN INVEST has acquired the rights for a photovoltaic project with a total nominal output of approximately 149 MWp ready for construction near Glenrowan (Victoria) in the southeast of the country, around 250 km north of Melbourne.
Construction works have been successfully completed in spring 2021 on site, which is roughly the size of 480 football fields and became home to around 375,000 solar modules generating now approximately 278,000 MWh of sustainable energy each year. This is enough energy to supply around 70,000 four-person households with electricity and will result in annual savings of approximately 117,000 tonnes of CO2.
The electricity will be marketed entirely without subsidies via the Australian power exchange or will be covered by private electricity supply contracts (PPAs).
At our wind and photovoltaic sites throughout Europe, we have had positive experiences with our general concept for acquiring, constructing and operating plants. For the first time outside of Europe, we did apply this same strategy at the photovoltaic park in Glenrowan.
